Most of our students will be working on reading as though they were speaking (not like robots!); in other words, fluency is the key skill for our readers for the rest of the year.
Some things that you can do at home to help your child improve his or her fluency are:

- Continue to allow your child to hear you or other adults read.
- Kindergartners will love to hear and read the same stories over and over. Let them!
- Make sure your students are using the guess-and-check strategy when they read. If your child comes to a word he or she doesn't know, have him or her make a guess and then check to see if that word makes sense with the sentence structure, the letters in the word, and any clues in the picture.

Our unit for a significant portion of the next semester is measurement. Encourage your child to find things that are taller or smaller than him or herself. Our kindergartners can also begin exploring measurement at home through non-standard measurements. Ask these questions:
